A New Mac & D.I.Y

Halfway through the semester I realized that my prized Macbook Pro just isn’t powerful enough for the various projects that I’m working on. AFter much procrastination, I decided to sell both my Macbook Pro and my 27″ Cinema Display. Honestly, I never thought I would sell my display. It was a lot harder than I thought. Apparently I’m more attached to my Apple gear than I realized. Anyways, while I wait for the shuffle of selling my old stuff and buying new stuff to finish up, I find myself with only a 13″ Macbook Pro. Now, don’t get my wrong, I really love my laptop. It’s super portable, and that Retina display is gorgeous. The blind girl struggle becomes real sometimes though. I really need more screen to get a lot of work done. It’s a reason I bought a 27″ monitor. I still can’t believe I had it 6 years. Man.

Instead of sitting around watching TV all day, I’ve decided to redecorate and reorganize my room. Since it’s a pretty big task, I figured it would help me pass the time while I wait for my new computer. I’ll be spending most of the next few weeks upcyclying my funiture because, well frankly it’s in bad shape. I’ve had most of it since I was 12, so it has been thoroughly loved over the last 12 years. It holds a special place in my heart, so instead of simply throwing it a way and buying new funiture I’ll be completely revamping it. I’ll have a post with pictures once I’ve made some meaningful progress. So far my desk is pretty much done, so I’m looking forward to getting everything set up just the way I like it. I’ll be starting on my dresser and nightstand tomorrow after my supplies arrive. Hopefully I’ll come up with a creative, but non destructive was to customize my new computer.

For those who are interested, I’m planning on getting a 5K iMac. I wanted a Mac Pro, but that’s just way out of my budget. After doing some research, I found the iMac to be the best fit for my needs. The screen is an excellent size, the RAM is user upgradable, it has a much smaller footprint than my previous set up, and the price is relatively resonaly for what you get. I need a machine that will grow with me, and I think this just might hit the mark. It saddened me to part ways from my beloved Macbook Pro after only 2 years, but it’s for the best.
